Fairies and Nymphs: Unreal Creations on Etsy

Handpicked on Etsy
The artist is like a magician, using not a magic wand but special skills and imagination to transform materials into objects of charm, romance and mystery.
Enchanted creatures inspired today's fea
tured artists to create these examples of modern day romance that celebrate the supernatural beings who dwell in woodland forests. Pagan lore of woodland fairies, nymphs and sprites not only infuse modern day children's tales, but are embraced by grown-up women who use a touch of fairy dust or tattered silk and lace to reveal their inner sprite. Puce: Color Scheming on Etsy

Handpicked on Etsy
Puce is a shade of red, denoting reddish-brown and purplish-brown, named after the French word for 'flea.' The earthy colors of iron-ore and rusted metal come to mind when I think of puce. It is a color that seems to go with nearly everything as a wearable accessory or within any decor, and is often associated with the fall season. Today I decided to seek out beautiful creations by talented Etsy artists in color palettes that incorporate rich shades of earthy reds. Click on the pictures to go directly to these listings. Prices range from $7.00 to $350.00.

Chartreuse: Color Scheming on Etsy

Handpicked on Etsy
Chartreuse has come to mean a color about halfway between yellow and green, while traditionally it meant 'yellow with a green cast' after the French liquer of the same name. As a fashion color, designers bestow it with trendy color names including pear, pistacio, apple, and camouflage. In my design career, I've found chartreuse can offend the eye of some people, while others appreciate as I do how a touch of chartreuse can enliven a color scheme. How does chartreuse affect you? It typically makes me smile, and I hope that is your reaction to this showcase of handmade and vintage creations found on Etsy. Click on the pictures to go directly to these listings. Prices range from $5.00 to $110.00.

Acrobatics: Daredevils on Etsy

Handpicked on Etsy
Again I consider the issue of gravity by focusing on depictions of acrobatic maneuvers that attempt to momentarily overcome its grounding force. Today's featured pieces share the theme of humans and anthropomorphic creatures, either posed in precarious balance or airborne without wings. Just as the acrobat thrills and tickles us with extraordinary feats, today's featured artists tickle our fancy with their delightful creations that please the eye and our sense of humor. Gravity: Attractive Forces on Etsy

Handpicked on Etsy
Gravity is the attraction between objects with mass, in which the larger object pulls all smaller objects unto itself. Gravity is what keeps us attached to our planet, drawn into the earth's center, grounded. Essential to the order of the universe, we take it for granted until an artist reminds of its mesmerizing power or intrigues us with attempts to defy it. In today's selections, these Etsy artists consciously considered gravity in their creative process. Each of the pieces successfully depicts a message about gravity: The way it draws all objects and particles unto the center of itself, the way all matter and substances fall downward to the earth's center, the way living beings enjoy a moment of defiance by going airborne, or the way it controls planetary orbits.

Assymetry: Balanced Imbalance on Etsy

Handpicked on Etsy
Asymmetry is a left-right imbalance of elements, line, shape, form, pattern, hue or volume that is found throughout nature. Depending on the object, to the human eye it can seem to be a violation of a perceived rule, or a captivating disparity that is organic, free of constraint and dynamic. In art, asymmetry can be as minimal as a wavy line or as bold as a sculpture that defies gravity. Throughout my own career in the design industry, I've been fascinated by clients who exhibit mild to extreme discomfort with asymmetry, while others are delighted by it. Different personality characteristics aside, I believe balance is the key to its visual appeal for most people, and today's selections are among a few wonderfully irregular creations by Etsy artists that represent balanced imbalance. Click on the pictures to go directly to these Etsy listings. Prices range from $18.00 to $295.00.
