Gamboge: The Color of Mustard on Etsy

Handpicked on Etsy
Gamboge is a familiar term to most artists who paint, denoting yellow-brown hues that come in tubes of artists' pigments. Originally derived from gamboge tree resin, the range of colors reminds us of mustard. Beautiful as a stand-alone hue, I also love what it does when used as an accent in a color scheme. A painter might cover a canvas with it before beginning to compose a landscape composition, a weaver might throw in a pick of it here and there, or a designer might use it for striking accessories to add punch and warmth. Today I featured creations found on Etsy that illustrate various beautiful ways to use the color gamboge. Click on the pictures to go directly to these Etsy listings. Prices range from $16.00 to $645.00. Quest for Success on Etsy

Handpicked on Etsy
Newcomers to Etsy are showcased today, artists whose talent has yet to be fully recognized and rewarded. Despite obvious skill and quality workmanship, these sellers have made very few or, in some cases, zero sales. When seaching through Pounce for extraordinary work, it can be challenging not to give up after the 5th or 6th page of search results, but a little extra patience today led me to these diverse finds. This blog was born last year of my desire to raise the bar on Etsy, so I hope this mention will bring these largely undiscovered sellers some encouragement and, better yet, a few more visitors and buzz to their Etsy stores. Click on the pictures to go directly to these Etsy listing. Prices $40.50 to $245.00.

Synergy: Followers Appreciation Day

Handpicked on Etsy
Today I am catching up with my own studio work, but wanted to take a moment to show appreciation for some of the followers of EtsyLounge who have repeatedly taken the time to post comments and contribute to SEO for this blog (see yesterday's post.) I stopped by 8 stores of previously featured artists, and found 8 lovely new things to display in this 'smorgasbord feast for the eyes.' It is generous of talented, busy artists like these to continually participate at this blog and support their fellow Etsy artists by creating synergy for all, and it makes the effort of doing this project worthwhile for me.

Take a Seat Part II: Chair Art on Etsy

Handpicked on Etsy
Yesterday I featured handcrafted chairs, furniture in which to sit. Today's topic is the chair used by talented Etsy artists as subject matter in the painterly, ceramic and photographic arts. One of these selections depicts the artist's playful flight of fancy, and the others invite the viewer to imagine the story.
The chair is a familiar object that generally provides comfort and style, or in some cases evokes anxiety (the "hot seat") or power (the executive chair or throne.) When we see empty chairs depicted in art, we tend to envision people using the chair. A lone chair may personify a specific individual (the ubiquitous, well-used "man chair") or evoke pleasant images of people in repose or contemplation, and in other cases pathos such as loneliness. Groupings of chairs suggest conversations or people-watching. To see up close images of these listings, click on the picture to go directly the Etsy store. Prices range from $15.00 to $550.00.
Today's Etsy artists include: fineartimages, jennamcknight, cherielester, Gypsey24, barbdunshee, shannspishak, ChipmunkCheeks, mimidoodles, SweetMess, saramulloy, honetree, peylu

Mist and Fog: Guest Post by Colleen

Handpicked on Etsy by Colleen of KCRlehrstudio
Mistfully Speaking...What is the difference between mist and fog? I know; the actual definition is the distance of visibility, but what is it to an artist? It is sensation, color, mood, tone - all the elements of true inspiration. In the mind of an artist, every natural phenomenon is transformed into a work of art. After spending most of the summer in Arizona and then returning to Pennsylvania, I realized that even though Arizona had some rain; I never saw mist or fog. This morning is a truly mistful (my word) day and the colors are so softly muted, yet still delightful. I decided to see how our fellow ETSIAN artists may have been inspired by this natural event. Please check out these works and others in their shops. I hope a closer look will inspire you. Prices range from $6.00 to $450.00.
Have a great day. Colleen of kcrlehrstudio.etsy.com
